The Carburettor: the most vital organ of an outboard
Think of the carburetor as the lungs of your outboard. Its only job is to perfectly mix fuel and air before sending it into the engine.
When it’s clean, your motor starts on the first pull and runs smooth. But when old fuel sits inside, it turns into a sticky varnish that completely blocks the microscopic internal jets.
Once those tiny passages are choked up, your engine starves. That’s when you get hard starts, rough idling, and constant stalling out on the water. You can’t just spray a cheap can of carb cleaner down the throat and expect it to clear those internal blockages. To get it breathing right again, the only real fix is stripping it down and completely clearing it from the inside out.
The Fix: Our Deep-Clean Process
We don't just spray it and pray. Here is exactly what happens when your carburettor hits our bench:
- 1. Initial Inspection: We check for cracked housings, worn linkages, and obvious damage before we touch a single screw.
- 2. Full Disassembly: We strip the carb completely down to the bare casting, removing every jet, nozzle, and needle.
- 3. Ultrasonic Deep Clean: The main event. We run the parts through a heated ultrasonic bath, using high-frequency sound waves to blast varnish out of the microscopic internal passages.
- 4. Hand Clean & Air Blast: We manually scrub stubborn exterior grime, then blast high-pressure air through every single jet and circuit to guarantee perfect flow.
- 5. Factory Float Adjustment: We set the float height back to the exact factory specs so your engine gets the perfect fuel level—no flooding, no starving.
- 6. Pressure Testing: The final check. We pressure test the needle and seat to ensure absolutely nothing leaks before you bolt it back onto your motor.
