Common Post-Install Issues (And How to Fix Them)

If you bolted your clean carb back on and things still aren't running 100%, check these common culprits before tearing it apart again.

  • Fuel leaking from the front: If fuel is overflowing, a tiny piece of debris from your boat's old fuel lines likely got flushed straight into your newly cleaned carb, holding the needle valve open. Always replace your inline fuel filter and flush your lines before installing a clean carb.

  • Bogging down on acceleration: This is almost always a linkage or synchronization issue. Double-check that your throttle linkages are connected properly and that the butterfly valves are opening exactly in sync with the ignition timing.

  • Engine won't fire at all: Start with the absolute basics. Is the primer bulb pumped hard? Is the kill switch lanyard attached? Are the fuel line connectors clicked in completely tightly without drawing air? A vacuum leak at the intake manifold gasket can also cause a no-start.
